About The Role

2ic Science – for September 2026

Salary: Main Professional Grade (MPS/UPS) + TLR2c £8,611pa

Closing date: Midnight Wednesday 24th February 2026

Interview date: Wednesday 4th March 2026

We are seeking an exceptional 2ic of Science to join our thriving and forward‑thinking Science department. Ada Lovelace is one of four Twyford Trust schools, a successful multi‑academy Trust based in the Borough of Ealing, offering excellent opportunities for professional development. As part of the Trust, staff benefit from comprehensive CPD, exciting career development pathways, and strong prospects for promotion.

The successful candidate will join an innovative and ambitious Science department with a strong track record of success in Triple and Combined Science and a growing specialism in applied science through our T-Level in Laboratory Sciences. Our curriculum is designed to be rigorous, inspiring, and supportive for students across all attainment levels. Progress is closely tracked through half-termly assessments, and the department works collaboratively to design and deliver high-quality learning that promotes deep scientific understanding and sustained achievement.

As this is a 2 ic role, it is particularly well suited to a practitioner ready to take the next step in their leadership journey. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about shaping curriculum design, supporting departmental leadership, and helping drive consistently excellent practice across all key stages. You will play a significant role in continuing to strengthen the department’s academic outcomes, developing the T-Level provision, supporting colleagues, and contributing to our shared vision for continuous improvement.

This role will appeal to someone who thrives when working collaboratively with colleagues, is passionate about inspiring young scientists, and is motivated by contributing to the continued success of both the Science department and the wider school community.

At Ada Lovelace High School, we place a strong emphasis on valuing staff time and supporting professional growth. Our approach is designed to help teachers thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Students finish early on Fridays, giving staff dedicated time for high-quality CPD every Friday afternoon. This ensures that professional development is embedded into the working week. Our commitment to staff wellbeing goes hand in hand with our ambition for excellence, with a centralised academic curriculum alongside shared pastoral systems and resources.

We provide opportunities for colleagues to deepen subject knowledge, engage in research, and undertake further qualifications such as National Professional Qualifications (NPQs). Our CPD programme is comprehensive and forward-thinking, ensuring staff remain up to date with the latest developments in pedagogy and curriculum design.

At Ada Lovelace, we believe the biggest impact happens when we work together as a team. Team culture is central to everything we do, and we regularly remind ourselves that “we are all developing teachers.” Collaboration, consistency, and shared learning are at the heart of our approach.

We offer:

  • Exceptional professional development and career progression
  • Positive working relationships at all levels
  • A supportive Leadership Team
  • Opportunities to gain experience within four different Trust schools with a shared commitment to collaboration

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • Strong subject knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum
  • The ability to inspire and motivate students across the ability range
  • A commitment to high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment
  • A reflective approach and drive for continuous improvement
  • A commitment to the ethos and values of the school

The school reserves the right to research shortlisted candidates on social media platforms and the internet, and the recruitment panel may take this information into consideration during the recruitment process

The Twyford Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful applicant will be required to undergo the child protection screening appropriate to the post, including an enhanced disclosure from the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and references from previous employers.  For more information about the DBS please see https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check.  The post-holder will also be expected to read and adhere to the Trust’s Child Protection Policy, and any other Safeguarding documents stated within this.

The Twyford Church of England Academy Trust is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents our context and wider community. We are aware that those of Global Majority Heritage/United Kingdom Minority Ethnic (GMH/UKME) and disabled people are currently under-represented among our staff, and we particularly encourage applications from those with the relevant skills and experience that will increase this representation.
