About The Role

Music Teacher – to start September 2025

Salary:  Main Professional Grade (MPS/UPS)

Closing date:  Midnight on Sunday 17th March 2025

Interview date: Thursday 26th March 2025

We are looking for an inspiring Music Teacher for Ada Lovelace Church of England High School, part of the Twyford CofE Academies Trust.  The Twyford Trust is made up of 4 exceptionally high achieving schools in Ealing which have the benefit of being very close geographically and being able to benefit from shared curriculum support. There is a Trust music service which co-ordinates teams of peripatetic teachers and central support for concerts and performances. The unusually high profile of music in all four schools is the outcome of this commitment.

Ada Lovelace has established specialisms in Music and Digital Technology, and from September 2024, 10% of each Year 7 cohort will be awarded places based on musical aptitude, building on a well-established culture of performance and nationally competitive success at Music GCSE (AQA).

The extracurricular offer at the school is comprehensive and ambitious, featuring an orchestra, string orchestra, concert band, several choirs and many student-led ensembles, including a thriving band culture. As the new music scholar programme is developed over the next few years, there is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team who will be further developing music extra-curricular opportunities both at Ada Lovelace, and as part of the Twyford Trust.

Being part of a Trust offers us fantastic opportunities to challenge and inspire our musicians: last year musicians from across the Trust performed with the Gabrieli Consort at Westminster Cathedral, performed at a local theatre with Ealing Music Service, and a Trust Choir went on tour to Belgium in July 2023.  This year our students will be given the opportunity to take part in ‘side by side’ workshops and concerts with the Nonsuch Orchestra, Central Band of the RAF, The Band of the Scots Guards, the jazz department at Trinity Laban College of Music, the woodwind department at the Royal College of Music and Ealing Symphony Orchestra.

Engagement with music at the school is extremely high, and this is supported by a well-resourced department with two specialist teaching rooms (one of which is a music technology suite with Sibelius and Cubase, and the other dedicated to practical music with keyboards, guitars, djembes and ukuleles). In addition, there is a suite of practice rooms and a large performance space which is fully supported by AV staff.

As a Church of England school, music also plays a significant part in the worship life of the school; each year group has its own communion band and choir who perform regularly in assemblies and termly communions, and most importantly there is a tradition of whole school singing which is supported by weekly singing lessons in Years 7 and 8.

Performance has a high profile at the school, with live music played by students in every assembly, and a busy calendar of both informal and formal performances. This includes three large-scale ensemble/choral concerts, as well as an annual carol service and a school musical every year.

The role of Music teacher is therefore a very important one, contributing significantly to the ethos of the school which is proud of its strong faith identity, its pastoral care and its outstanding academic outcomes. You will work closely with the Head of Music, and Head of Trust Music Specialism to promote excellent academic, pastoral and performance outcomes, and there will be opportunities for you to contribute something unique, making the most of your own particular skillset.

The best way to experience the musical life of our school is to visit the Music Department, meet the staff and see the students perform. Candidates who are interested in the role are encouraged to make contact with the HR department to visit, ahead of applying. This can be arranged by emailing the HR department: [email protected]

This role is suitable for ECT and RQT applicants.

We offer:

  • Exceptional professional development and career progression
  • Positive working relationships at all levels
  • A supportive Leadership Team
  • Opportunity to gain experience within four different Trust schools with a common commitment to professional collaboration

    The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • Ability to teach Music to at least KS4
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum
  • An understanding of recent curriculum / learning developments
  • An understanding of the strategies required to motivate and enthuse all students across the ability range as part of a whole school approach to raising achievement

 Desirable qualities:

  • Ability to lead singing in the classroom / assemblies
  • Ability to accompany singing lessons and performances

For more information about the school, please visit the Twyford Trust and Ada Lovelace CofE High School websites.

The school reserves the right to research shortlisted candidates on social media platforms and the internet, and the recruitment panel may take this information into consideration during the recruitment process

The Twyford Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful applicant will be required to undergo the child protection screening appropriate to the post, including an enhanced disclosure from the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and references from previous employers.  For more information about the DBS please see https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check.  The post-holder will also be expected to read and adhere to the Trust’s Child Protection Policy, and any other Safeguarding documents stated within this.

The Twyford Church of England Academy Trust is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents our context and wider community. We are aware that those of Global Majority Heritage/United Kingdom Minority Ethnic (GMH/UKME) and disabled people are currently under-represented among our staff, and we particularly encourage applications from those with the relevant skills and experience that will increase this representation.

About the school

Ada Lovelace CE High School is consulting on its Admissions policy for entry into Year 7 in September 2026 to include ‘Children of Staff’ places. If, as we expect, the proposal is approved, the admissions policy will include the following criterion: ‘Children of all staff’ where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made or where the member of staff has been recruited to a post where there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

Ada Lovelace CE High School, Ealing

Ada Lovelace Church of England High School is the newest school in the Twyford CE Academies Trust having moved into its brand-new permanent site in north Ealing in September 2020. The school has now reached full capacity, educating just over 1050 students across years 7 to 13. Ada Lovelace is named after the Victorian pioneer of computing and has a specialism in Digital Technologies which has led to the launch of T-levels at the school in Digital Production, Design and Development as well as Laboratory Science. A new T-level in Accounting will be offered from 2025. Being part of the top-performing Multi-Academies Trust in the UK has enabled Ada Lovelace to achieve outstanding GCSE results with a Progress 8 score of +1.33 in 2023 and +1.4 in 2024. Whilst the school has a strong Christian ethos, its admissions policy is open rather than faith-based and the school is heavily oversubscribed. It is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted (January 2023) and is due to be inspected by SIAMS in the 2024/25 academic year. Twyford CE Academies Trust

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a Multi Academy Trust which comprises four secondary schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable our heavily oversubscribed existing school, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10-year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest performing Trust in the UK including the progress made by disadvantaged students. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Trust motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), TCEAT operates on collaborative principles with some central services to achieve consistency of provision. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum running through years 7-13, which has been devised by staff within the four schools. It has thriving post-16 provision, including both A-Levels and T-Levels, and is heavily oversubscribed. Music plays a significant role in the spiritual life of the TCEAT schools and pastoral systems are strong. The Trust also runs Teach West London, a Teaching School Hub for teacher training and development with outreach to over 330 schools across Ealing, harrow Hillingdon and Hounslow. More recently, TCEAT partnered with Oak National Academy to develop their English Secondary curriculum and produce high-quality resources for pupils in years 7–11. Following this success, a further partnership has evolved with Cam Academy Trust to support them with developing the MFL Curriculum for Oak. This is in collaboration with the Thames West Language Hub, which is an NCLE Language Hub run by TCEAT which aims to support high quality language education and high uptake of language learning in the local community. More information can be found on the TCEAT website: https://twyfordacademies.org.uk/
